Project Overview
This family villa from the 1960s in Sintra was acquired by a young family who were determined to preserve its original character and the spirit of its era. Rather than pursuing a radical renovation, the clients chose a careful restoration approach: preserving and enhancing existing features while upgrading the house with modern engineering systems. The interiors were complemented with vintage furniture and decorative pieces thoughtfully selected to reflect the aesthetic of the period

The Challenge
The realities of contemporary family life required multiple workspaces to support remote work. Even small alcoves and cozy corners along the corridors were transformed into compact home office areas, carefully integrated into the villa's vintage-inspired interior.
Design Approach
The project relied primarily on local materials and products sourced from Portugal and Spain. The home's existing color palette was preserved and enriched with tones inspired by the surrounding landscape: the blues of the ocean and sky, the greens of the Sintra hills, and the warm terracotta-pink hues of traditional clay-tiled roofs.
The original pink marble sourced from a local quarry was carefully restored and replaced only where necessary. In the blue bathroom, new ceramic tiles were introduced, as the previous dark emerald finish felt visually heavy and no longer aligned with the refreshed design concept.

Key Design Decisions
One of the most distinctive personalization features was the use of custom-designed mural wallpapers. Each bedroom received its own unique theme, reflecting the personality and interests of its occupant. The imagery and color palettes were coordinated with the adjoining en-suite bathroom, creating a cohesive identity and a unique atmosphere for every private space.
